Indonesian wireless operator Excelcomindo announced today that it’s selected Comverse (News - Alert) for a major Short Message Service Center expansion to handle its growing personal and application-related text messaging needs and to implement new SMS services.

 

Comverse officials describe their company as a subsidiary of Comverse Technology (News - Alert), Inc. and a global supplier of software and systems enabling network-based multimedia enhanced communication and billing services. Comverse’s solutions are designed to support flexible deployment models, including in-network, hosted and managed services, and can run on circuit-switched, VoIP, IMS and converged network environments, according to the company.

 

Comverse SMSC’s highly flexible multi-layered environment supports IP-based networks and for IMS, company officials say.

 

Dian Siswarini, director of networks at Excelcomindo, said, “After voice, SMS is the highest revenue-generating service in our market, accounting for nearly 30 percent of total revenue. We are currently experiencing a dramatic, rapid expansion of our user base and we are also working to increase our market share, so it is mission-critical for us that our SMSC provides superior performance”.

 

Siswarini also said Comverse SMSC is a service that can meet the company’s demanding requirements in terms of its capacity and ability to handle extreme usage during peak hours. Siswarini also said Comverse can support the company’s roadmap vision to improve the text-messaging experience by adding exciting SMS services.

 

“Comverse also met our requirement for fast time to market to enable us to handle heavy holiday messaging traffic,” Siswarini said.
