The 2012 Republican National Convention is slated to be held at the Tampa Bay Times Forum August 27-30, 2012, and almost 50,000 visitors are expected to attend.

In order to ensure its success, Protected Mobility has been recruited to see that the convention staff always stays connected.

Protected mobility, a mobile security technology company based in Virginia, will provide its ProtectedSMS communications solution to more than 600 convention staff, volunteers and vendors.

"We are proud to have been chosen by the Republican National Convention to provide secure SMS communications services at this summer's convention," said William J. Marlow, founder of Protected Mobility.

This is the first secure SMS solution “designed for executives and mobile workers who require the highest level of privacy for text messaging,” according to company officials.

It offers handset-to-handset encryption, dynamic key management and a non-invasive user interface, producing greater transparency in end-to end security.

With smartphones radically altering the communication landscape and becoming increasingly essential for managing real-time interactions, the Committee on Arrangements for the 2012 Republican National Convention was in search of a reliable mobile communications solution that was smart, secure and simple to use.

"Our choice of Protected Mobility continues the convention's embrace of cutting-edge technology," said William Harris, CEO, committee on arrangements. "The company is a recognized pioneer in the field of providing easy-to-use but powerfully effective and measurable communications solutions."

As a result of the partnership, iOS, Android and BlackBerry (News - Alert) mobile device users will be able to send and receive messages easily. Protected mobility will ensure that the right information reaches the right person at the right time and thus help the convention staff to stay connected.

SMS traffic growth was in the range of 50 to 80 percent above normal, during the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. On the other hand, none of the individual athletic events generated enough overall interest to cause a statistically relevant uptick in the SMS traffic, compared to the opening ceremonies, said Bill Dudley, group director of operator services products at Sybase (News - Alert).
