Global Gaming Network, a company that distributes and aggregates digital entertainment and sports information for online and mobile platforms, announced it has formed a new division to offer a competitively priced SMS text messaging services to third party publishers and distributors.

The text messaging service utilizes the company’s proprietary software and delivers an extraordinarily lucrative short code transmission at an affordable cost, according to company officials.

"Short code delivery is controlled exclusively by the various telco carriers. It has placed them in the position of setting their own prices and controlling the 'gateway' to delivering text messages to mobile phones in the United States,” said Stephen Kern, president of GBGM, in a statement.

Further Kern said if a company wants to operate an SMS based delivery system, it is now at the mercy of the telco carriers, known to charge as much as $.04/message, making it prohibitive for most small to medium size companies to make a profit on their distribution operations.

The proprietary system eliminates the need to go to the telcos for short code distribution, according to Kern. "We believe there exists an opportunity to offer companies a method of distributing SMS at a cost effective and efficient manner that will undercut the competition."

Within the past year, more SMS messages were sent than any other kind of telecommunication, with the volume reaching 30 percent in that one year alone, according to industry reports.Recently, Informa Telecoms & Media (News - Alert) reported that mobile operators will generate a total of $722.7 billion in revenue from SMS between 2011 and 2016.

Despite reports saying that social media will kill SMS and Facebook’s (News - Alert) 425 million of its 900 million users tap into social networking over text messaging, mobile operators are still poised to generate higher total revenue from text messages, the report said.
