Despite the leaps and bounds we’ve made as a society to connect and reach out, hurdles exist beneath the technology surface that only a proven test management solution can help overcome. When it comes to testing, which is better? Should businesses look towards an out-of-the-box proprietary solution or focus on keeping it in the family by using a “homegrown” tool?

Test management specialists over at Zephyr discussed this topic in a recent blog post, and while homegrown options are good for enterprises that want to keep test management in-house, proprietary solutions may actually offer more functionality.

Through well-planned and well-managed testing processes, business teams can ensure that they are producing the best products possible while making the most of their limited resources. The need to manage increasingly complex software products has resulted in the need for smart test management practices across every project.

As complexity increases, and as teams become more widely distributed across different geographical locations, an effective test management process is key to project success.

One solution is Amazon Web Services (News - Alert) (AWS), notes Zephyr, which can be used as a platform to streamline processes as opposed to tinkering with complex infrastructures. Testing within the cloud enables testing teams to take a big step forward in conducting more efficient and more realistic large-scale tests. In addition, it enables organizations to realize significant savings in cost and time made possible by cloud technology.

It’s flexible, eliminates time wasted, and it doesn’t require an in-house expert.

Solutions like those from Zephyr allow for easy navigation, thus facilitating quick jump between various projects and releases. Since all of the data is instantly updated, there is no time wasted in gathering status updates or organizing said updates.

Managing quality of data is often challenging due to complex relationships, limited infrastructure, sensitivity of data, and the lack of data conforming to business rules. Test management eliminates these challenges.

Is your company using cloud-based testing or going with a more native approach?
