Acme Packet Announces Interoperability Qualification with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007

By Deepika Mala, TMCnet Contributor

Acme Packet’s (News - Alert) integrated session border controller, the Net-Net Session Director, has achieved interoperability qualification with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 when used in conjunction with Verizon Business' IP Trunking service.

tekVizion (News - Alert) Labs, Microsoft's Unified Communication Open Interoperability Program testing partner, conducted the qualification testing.

For SIP/PSTN gateways, IP PBXs and SIP trunking services, UC OIP is Microsoft's (News - Alert) qualification program. Successful UC OIP qualification ensures that enterprise SIP trunking customers experience seamless setup, support, and use of qualified telephony infrastructure and services with Microsoft's unified communications software and Microsoft Office Communications Online.

tekVizion Labs’ testing demonstrates that with Acme Packet SBCs, enterprises can deploy Microsoft Office Communications Server SIP trunking with Verizon Business (News - Alert) IP Trunking services.

IP Trunking service of Verizon Business is also UC OIP-qualified, consolidates voice and has other unique features such as a burstable enterprise shared trunking capability, onto a SIP-based network, thereby controlling or eliminating the costs associated with maintaining traditional TDM local lines, trunks, and dedicated PRI circuits.

Between the OCS Mediation Server and Verizon's Private IP or Internet Dedicated Access networks, Acme Packet's Net-Net SBCs can be deployed in Verizon Business' IP Trunking. The Net-Net SBC can also be deployed at enterprises that integrate both OCS 2007 R2 and IP PBX solutions as part of Verizon Business' IP trunking.

Many leading SIP trunking service providers, because of Acme Packet's proven experience, with over 1100 customers and 10,000 systems deployed worldwide, specify Acme Packet SBCs into their offerings. Small, medium and large enterprise customers, through Acme Packet's UC OIP qualification are offered with the increased confidence to deploy Acme Packet SBCs in conjunction with Verizon Business' IP Trunking services.

"Acme Packet SBCs play a critical role for many of our IP Trunking customers," Thomas Dalrymple, product management director of global voice solutions with Verizon Business, stated. "The ability for our VoIP service to work in an integrated fashion with Acme Packet SBCs gives our customers in the U.S. and Europe greater flexibility when designing Verizon IP Trunking with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2."

"With Office Communications Server 2007 R2, Microsoft has successfully extended the power of unified communications to embrace desktop voice communications," Seamus Hourihan (News - Alert), Acme Packet's executive vice president of marketing and product management, stated. "Acme Packet is now taking this offering one step further by giving Verizon Business IP Trunking customers the flexibility to implement Microsoft OCS with our industry-leading Net-Net SBC."

In related news, Acme Packet, Inc., the leader in session border control solutions, has announced that Mr. Michael Thurk resigned from the Board of Directors on September 9, 2010 for personal reasons.
