ECI Telecom Powers Deployment of Israeli Electric's Advanced 100G Transport Network

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

ECI Telecom (News - Alert), a provider of next-generation network solutions including NEBS-certified telecom platform deployment solutions, has revealed that the Israeli Electric Corporation (IEC (News - Alert)) has selected its Apollo family of advanced optical transport network solutions to meet its increasing network connectivity needs.

IEC is currently leveraging the Apollo family of Optimized Multi-Layer Transport (OMLT) platforms to address both growing capacity and communications needs. The solution offers increased flexibility and reliability for advanced data traffic services. With OMLT, IEC can run a successful pilot of the platform’s 100G capabilities.

Though 100G technology is the future of the market, only a few operators are deploying it at the moment. ECI’s 100G technology will enable IEC to improve efficiency and telecommunications capabilities, while it brings Israel to the leading edge in technology solutions.

During the 100G Apollo pilot test, the OMLT was able to transmit 100 Gbit/s on a single wavelength. The pilot demonstrated advanced capabilities in the company's transmission network, which also included a tenfold increase in capacity.

"This 100G trial represented a technological leapfrog for the IEC, as we are able to expand and provide next-generation broadband services over the most advanced optical infrastructure,” said Yosi Shneck, VP for Information Systems and Communication, IEC, in a statement.

“With ECI's Apollo OMLT, we are better able to cope with our increasing needs for capacity and to respond to our organizational and our customers' demands for more bandwidth and services,” Shneck added. “The success of the trial has further emphasized the high quality of the IEC fiber optic network and its ability to transport new high end capacity services without any changes to the existing infrastructure."

Apollo's 100G capabilities will allow the company to implement broadband services across the board through optimized utilization of existing resources.

"The IEC belongs to a select group of providers who have embarked on a quantum leap in terms of capacity and the ability to support advanced services and the constant traffic growth rate. We are proud to deploy Israel's first 100G optical network," Oren Marmur, head of Optical Networking & CESR Lines of Business, ECI Telecom commented.
