Tigo Tanzania, a telecom platform operator in Tanzania, has launched an innovative voice SMS solution by leveraging the value-added Open Multimodal Platform from Kirusa (News - Alert), a provider of mobile social media and value added services (VAS).

The solution will enable the telecom carrier to deploy a wide range of services to its subscriber base. The voice SMS, which allows Tigo subscribers to send messages by voice, is the first of its kind in the country.

Compared to text messaging, voice messaging offers several benefits, including speed, ease-of-use, and a broadening of the limited display of characters in conventional SMS.

“We are happy at the initial response from our mobile users customers to the limited release of Kirusa's Voice SMS service,” said Marcelo Aleman, managing director at Tigo Tanzania, in a statement. “As we expand the rollout of Kirusa Voice SMS service in coming days at very affordable tariffs, we are certain to generate an enthusiastic response.”

Aleman acknowledged that the robust telecom platform deployment service from Kirusa has been crucial to the launch of the innovative voice SMS solution."Tigo has been a true partner in the success of our service,” said Taranjit Singh Batra, vice president of Sales at Kirusa, in a statement. “Their proactive support has made a tremendous difference and we expect to extend the partnership to deliver several more mobile services to Tigo customers."
