By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

Symbian (News - Alert) OS v9, the latest release from Symbian OS for smartphones, loaded with a bunch of new features including enhanced security, reliability and new performance features now also includes new speech capabilities thanks to Loquendo.

Speech technology provider Loquendo has announced Loquendo TTS' latest advancement in multilingual synthetic speech—the porting of Loquendo embedded TTS to Symbian OS v9.

This brings a whole new level of speech capabilities including powerful text analysis capabilities; accurate semantic analysis and lexicon file customization, as well as full multilingual capabilities.

Distinguishing features offered from Loquendo's speech technology and now available on Symbian OS v9 also include emotional synthetic voices, offering natural expressiveness that sounds life-like, and features Loquendo TTS mixed language capabilities like the ability to accurately and naturally switch languages when reading addresses, points of interest, etc.

Now, smartphones are given enhanced multilingual capabilities and service providers are guaranteed a branded, seamless service featuring the same language and voices even in mixed environments, "where part of the content is originated by the network and the rest is generated locally from the handset," news released noted.

Loquendo made news recently with the announcement that Travel Club, a service offering frequent buyers of sponsored products with points that can be exchanged for travel/ and or gifts,  utilized speech technology from Loquendo to optimize their ticket-booking voice portal in a bid to better meet the needs of their increasing member base.
