Loquendo TTS Chosen for New Augmentative Speech Communication Device

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

A Turin, Italy- based speech technologies provider has announced its text-to-speech or “TTS” technology is now included in a communication device that assists individuals living with the effects of stroke, autism, down syndrome, traumatic brain injury, ALS, and apraxia of speech who cannot communicate effectively.

Officials with Loquendo said their TTS technology was incorporated into DynaVox Mayer-Johnson’s new “Xpress” solution – a portable, easy-to-use augmentative communication device.

According to Luisa Cordano, sales manager of embedded technologies at Loquendo (News - Alert), DynaVox Mayer-Johnson is making a genuine difference to the lives of people unable to use their natural voice with this latest offering.

"We are proud to know that Loquendo speech technology is helping people to express themselves more effectively and is improving the lives and personal communication of so many individuals," Cordano said.

With Xpress, users can share their messages and effectively speak their minds through augmented communicators. And in addition to clear, fluent speech, users can also add emotion to their communications thanks to Loquendo TTS.

Available in a wide range of voices and languages, Loquendo TTS brings natural sounding voices that can read any kind of dynamic data prompts and includes pronunciation accuracy, natural timbre and intonation.

"Our clients told us they wanted a highly portable solution with superior communication functionality," said Michael Lisanti, DynaVox Mayer-Johnson's director of product management. "With the help of Loquendo Embedded speech technology, the Xpress achieves this objective, and we are excited to offer the most transformative speech device ever to the augmentative and alternative communication community.
