Turin, Italy- based speech technologies provider Loquendo (News - Alert) has announced its Text-to-Speech or “TTS” technology together with EnGIS Technologies Navigation Software have been included in a new in-dash navigation system.
EnGIS Technologies is a provider of specialist navigation and LBS software for in-car and mobile devices. Together with Loquendo, the companies offer Gogo Navigation software to provide drivers with the most efficient routes as well as accurate, turn-by-turn directions via Loquendo's life-like multilingual voices.
As per this latest announcement, the solution is now powering Dual Electronics' new XDVDN9131 multimedia/ navigation receiver.
This device offers consumers a 7 inch TFT LCD touch screen interface and includes hands free Bluetooth and audio streaming as well as an internal and external microphone and input for steering wheel controls.
The Gogo software is available in North and South America as well as East Asia – with availability in Europe to also follow soon.
"EnGIS and Loquendo have been collaborating closely since 2008 in order to empower Gogo with the best-of-breed, expressive synthetic voices," said Luisa Cordano, Loquendo sales manager for Embedded Technologies.
The companies have also announced they are now working together to also incorporate Loquendo Speech Recognition (ASR) technologies into the Gogo software.

Loquendo was recently recognized as a “Market Leader” for their advanced speech technologies at an industry event. The company was awarded ‘Speech Engine Market Leader’ and Loquendo's director of International Standards, Paolo Baggia, was also presented at the ceremony with a ‘Speech Luminary 2009’ award.
Officials said they presented Loquendo with these awards in recognition of their speech technologies “accuracy, cost, customization, integration and innovation.”
