Loquendo's Text-to-Speech Makes It's Way On Board deCarta

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

In a bid to make it even easier for users to access location based content from their Personal Navigation Devices (PNDs), deCarta (News - Alert) has added Loquendo's Text-to-Speech voices to their two-way connected navigation service.

deCarta is a supplier of software and services for the LBS industry. Their offerings make it possible for drivers to search the Internet for a destination or point of interest or access their CNAV service to find a faster route or check traffic data as needed.

“Connected navigation provides a path to a much broader set of services and content that will be very useful for the driver,” says Marc Prioleau, Vice President of Marketing at deCarta.

“Since that content needs to be presented in a safe and useful way to the driver, we needed a partner who can deliver high quality speech technology, the ability to localize for different countries and a strong roadmap to voice recognition. Loquendo (News - Alert) provides all these capabilities and we are looking forward to working with them in this growing market.”

With Loquendo's TTS offering, its possible to have dynamic texts read aloud in 26 different languages including directions, news, weather and other information.

The inclusion of Loquendo TTS in deCarta's CNAV service means users can gain access to information by using their voice.

With text to speech capabilities, LBS is not only made possible for users and will help to increase the growth of deCarta's CNAV service, but it also helps to improve safety for drivers who no longer need to take their eyes off the road to gain access to information.

“deCarta’s SDK and CNAV navigation platform is a powerful tool with incredible potential,” says Paolo Coppo, VP of Marketing and Business Development at Loquendo.

“We are proud to have contributed to enriching such a compelling product by adding our TTS voices, especially since our TTS will play a vital role in helping to prevent driver distraction.”

Loquendo also just released of the latest version of its Speech Recognition offering, ASR 7.7, which includes a number of new capabilities that improve the delivery and accuracy of speech and offers support for 21 languages as well as specialized acoustic models for all types of telephony environments and noisy in-car environments.
