Speech Recognition: CCXML 1.0 Becomes a W3C Proposed Recommendation

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

Loquendo (News - Alert), a speech recognition technology provider and coordinator of the CCXML Implementation Report, has just revealed that the Voice Browser Working Group has published a Proposed Recommendation of CCXML Version 1.0 (Call Control eXtensible Markup Language).

According to a press release, the CCXML is an XML-based markup language designed to add call control capabilities to telephony systems in a standard way: as it is a powerful language that simplifies the basic telephony functionalities of complex and proprietary IVR systems.

Company officials added that the CCXML is designed to provide sophisticated telephony call control support for dialog systems, such as VoiceXML (News - Alert), and allows the development and control of advanced conferencing services, outbound and inbound calls and all types of call transfer.

CCXML enables complex actions to be easily programmed, such as conditional acceptance of calls, various types of call transfer, advanced multi-party conferencing, and sophisticated multiple-call handling and control, including the management of proactive outbound calls.

CCXML can be integrated with any dialog system that has the ability to handle media, although it was originally created to be seamlessly integrated with a VoiceXML interpreter.

“It gives us great satisfaction that the Voice Browser Working Group has published CCXML 1.0, and that Loquendo had the opportunity to coordinate the Implementation Report,” said Paolo Baggia, director of international standards at Loquendo and member of the Voice Browser Working Group, in a statement. “CCXML is the ideal language for creating advanced call and conferencing services. It simplifies telephony service development, making complex actions easier to perform, so meeting the needs of the market,” he added.

The VoiceXML Forum has certified Loquendo speech technologies, through the VoxNauta platform, that are fully compliant with the W3C (News - Alert) VoiceXML 2.0 & VoiceXML 2.1 Recommendations.

The Loquendo VoxNauta, which fully supports CCXML 1.0, is an easy to use, fully scalable platform for businesses wishing to develop complex, interactive voice services via telephony or VoIP. VoxNauta can deal with any type of system from simple services based on pre-recorded messages and DTMF tone-recognition, to more advanced services using Loquendo ASR for the understanding of user requests, combined with Loquendo TTS for the reading of dynamic texts.
