As the telephony market continues to grow rapidly in India, provider of speech applications and solutions, Nuance Communications, is making their presence known and is now offering OpenSpeech Recognizer (OSR) technology to support India's national language, Hindi.

 

With OSR, the speech recognition engine for telephony applications, callers in India are able to increase their use of speech recognition applications in a natural way and using their own native language. Self-service telephony applications are also possible and with the SpeakFreely feature, what a caller response means can also be determined.

 

Previously, OSR technology only recognized the Indian dialect of the English language. Now, with the new Hindi recognition capabilities the two offerings can combine to allow for bilingual recognition services that make the caller experience even more natural.

 

According to a recent news release, there were 35 million new subscribers to telephony services in India over the past year and by the end of 2007, that number is expected to reach 250 million subscribers.

 

Nuance (News - Alert) is no stranger in India either. Their speech solutions have already been deployed by India telecom service providers including: Airtel, BSNL, Hutch, MTNL, Spice and Tata Indicom. India Times also looked to Nuance's speech technologies to help expand the access and reach of its internet portal.
