Nimbleness is more than just a virtue in business today—it is a necessity.
The barriers to entry are less, technology is constantly changing the game, and competition in almost every industry has expanded thanks to the Internet and global markets. Meeting that challenge requires constant adjustment in both product offerings and business practices.
Prysm is an example of how businesses must keep evolving. The San Jose, Calif.-based display technology and cloud-based collaboration provider recognized that it had to evolve from a display and hardware company to a software and hardware solutions provider to stay on top of the market.
Making the adjustment required a change not only from hardware to software services, but also a new set of licensing schemes.
Perpetual licensing no longer was feasible for the company as it transitioned to cloud services. Prysm needed more flexible licensing options, including subscription-based pricing and usage-based licensing on a per-user and user-pool basis.
Further, Prysm had to adjust its entitlement management with the move, making it easier for the company to enable existing appliances with added functionality—a model now gaining widespread adoption in the market.
Being nimble means both seeing the adjustments that must be made and making those adjustments quickly. For Prysm, this meant tapping the expertise of licensing and entitlement management firm, Flexera.
“Prysm chose Flexera Software because they provide field-hardened libraries for us to include in our products to enable licensing, and the back-office systems provide a wide variety of licensing schemes,” noted Stuart Monks in a mini case study on the Flexera blog, vice president of collaboration solutions for Prysm.
“Flexera Software also provides implementation assistance and best practices guidance which are essential to use as we move rapidly to flexible licensing and monetization models,” he added.
Knowing when to grab support and use off-the-shelf solutions is part of being nimble and adjusting efficiently to changing market demands. Prysm has shown that both understands the need to constantly change—and knows how to get there.
