Software Licensing Company Flexera Helps Thomson Reuters

Companies operating in the financial services space cannot afford to cut corners on technology implementations that affect performance on the client side. Flexera Software offers solutions that extend functionality and capabilities through software licensing that enhance the experience for all users.

A recent Flexera Software case study highlighted one success story where software updating helped Thomson Reuters (News - Alert) lower maintenance and support costs through critical updates to financial software users. Thomson Reuters is a provider of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, offering an extensive suite of financial tools for financial professionals.

The challenge for Thomson Reuters involved the company’s desire to offer customers transparent updates of desktop financial tools software. Thousands of customers currently use the software 24-hours a ways, seven-days per week. A number of large customers wanted more control over software licensing so they could roll out updates to users according to their own strategy.

“We needed to transparently provide our customers with critical software updates in the least intrusive way possible,” said Andrei Borsaru, responsible for Thomson Reuters Eikon Deployment and Installation at Thomson Reuters. “The software update process needed to be easy to deploy and install as well as comply with our large customers’ need to control the roll-out of the updates to their user community.”

To meet this need, Thomson Reuters turned to Flexera Software for the optimal software licensing and updating solutions. Thomson Reuters implemented the FlexNet Connect, a component of Flexera Software’s FlexNet Producer Suite for Software Vendors. This solution is used to electronically deliver updates to customers.

Thomson Reuters’ Eikon solution is designed to redefine how financial professionals work as it replaces the most comprehensive market news, information, trading and analytics tools available into a desktop solution that is simple to use and easily drives collaboration. The company simply needed a way to effectively support software licensing to the customer base.

The key challenge for Thomson Reuters was in selecting the right strategy for extending capabilities out to the client base. They could continue to use an in-house developed software update solution, or purchase a software licensing platform that was already commercially available.

By partnering with Flexera Software, the company could benefit from the expertise and experience of a commercially available software update solution. This particular option could integrate seamlessly into their software application so the company could focus on core competencies instead of building their own software update solution.

Once the implementation of the software updating platform was complete, FlexNet enabled Thomson Reuters to lower the overall costs associated with maintenance and support as it provided critical updates to users on its Eikon financial software.

Borsaru summarized, “Flexera Software’s FlexNet Connect solution enabled us to release our Thomson Reuters Eikon product with best-in-class software update capabilities that gives our customers peace of mind that their real-time financial desktop software will be up-to-date and operational 24/7.”
