Since the arrival of the Internet, more companies deploy open-source platforms that take advantage of the knowledge base outside their organization to come up with new innovative solutions advancing the products and services they offer. This provides companies with faster-to-market opportunities because the solutions being created by developers target customers with specific needs.
Patton (News - Alert) Electronics, a manufacturer of SmartNode VoIP solutions, CopperLink Ethernet Extenders, and BODI rS high-availability fixed and mobile routers, is opening SmartNode VoIP CPE to VoIP & UC to appliance developers so they can create customized communications solutions.
The company has announced it is taking orders for the new SmartNode Open Gateway (News - Alert) Appliance (SNOGA), which offers customized, IP-based, businesses communications for two to 128 concurrent voice or fax calls.
With SNOGA, industry players and integrators can purchase the unit and develop or install the software of their choice as well as partnering with Patton to create a custom OEM solution for a wide range of applications. The platform runs any IPPBX, soft switch, router, SBC, call recorder, or call accounting software providing one of the best customization solutions in the marketplace with endless configurations for creating customer centric services.
As a ‘one box’ solution, the Open Gateway Appliance gets rid of the obstacles many companies face with interoperability when they choose to keep their legacy platforms, including PBXs, phones, fax equipment and POTS lines. It can be configured with a range of analog FXS/FXO and/or ISDN BRI/PRI gateways coupled with the industry standard miniITX PC board.
The SNOGA open hardware platform serves as a host hardware platform for SMBs to build customized, Linux or Windows-based unified-communications (UC) or business phone system as well as network-appliance applications, including Interactive Voice Response (IVR), call recording, call-accounting, session border controller, and more.
Some of the features of the SONGA platform include:
- Supports for any OS - Windows or Linux based.
- Fully customizable - for a variety of communication software IP-PBXs, routers, session border controllers, call recording, or call accounting.
- Monitoring and management - leverage the Patton EMS system together with preferred software on the SmartNode Open Gateway Appliance to be monitored and managed.
- Provisioning - the Open Gateway Appliance can be provisioned with zero touch at the customer site using the Patton Redirection Service.
- BYOP (Bring your own phone) - no vendor lock-in, it lets you choose your own hardware, whether it is IP phones or softphones, computers, tablet computers and mobile phones.
- SIP Trunks or PSTN - save on monthly call costs using SIP Trunks or receive and make calls via the standard PSTN.
“Patton is really excited about the partner engagement that can be realized with software-centric communication solutions providers,” said Burton A. Patton, EVP of Patton. “Now, by leveraging Patton’s tightly-integrated, purpose-built, open hardware, open-source communities and communications software developers can build their own standard products.”
