iBasis (News - Alert), a provider of voice termination services and data services such as messaging, signaling and roaming, announced a partnership with TI Sparkle, the international services arm of Telecom Italia (News - Alert) Group, to implement a multiservice IPX Peering connection to exchange both voice and mobile data.
A wholly-owned KPN company, iBasis is a leading wholesale carrier of international long distance telephone calls and a provider of retail prepaid calling services and data services for mobile operators.
TI Sparkle (News - Alert) offers a full range of voice, mobile data, Internet Protocol (IP), and bandwidth solutions to fixed and mobile operators, Internet service providers (ISPs), Media and Content providers and to Multinational enterprises.
A co-founding member of the i3forum, TI Sparkle was one of the first international carriers to migrate its bilateral voice traffic to IP successfully. The company was also one of the first service providers to offer an IPX solution which is both compliant with the guidelines of the i3forum as well as the GSMA (News - Alert) specifications to support existing and next generation IP-based services.
The new interconnection is designed to support the exchange of voice, signaling and GRX traffic generated by and destined for network operators connected to each carrier's IPX and will ensure end-to-end quality of service.
"IPX is strategically important for Sparkle as an innovative wholesale provider of voice and mobile data services," said Riccardo Delleani, chief executive officer of TI Sparkle, in a statement. "We are pleased to be entering this partnership with iBasis, and to be able to combine our complementary IP expertise and multiservice IPX offerings.”
“We are directing voice and mobile data services traffic to the IPX now and look forward to continuing to utilize its ability to support additional services over a single peering interconnection in the future," Delleani added.
IPX, the next-generation alternative to the public Internet, offers the flexibility and efficiency of IP with the security and reliable quality associated with traditional TDM networks. It helps network operators transition to IP to capture efficiencies and support new services, such as LTE (News - Alert) Roaming, voice over LTE, IP videoconferencing, and HD voice.
"The demand for IPX interconnections is increasing as more and more network operators recognize its importance as an efficient multiservice platform for delivering high quality voice and mobile data services today and for new services in the near future, such as HD Voice and LTE Roaming and Signaling," said Willem Offerhaus, iBasis CEO, in a statement.
