Ticketmaster and Facebook Teaming Up to Show Users Where Friends Are Sitting

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

Over the last few days, we’ve talked a lot about how the sporting world is starting to embrace social media sites. Integrating the two at times seems like it would be a no-brainer considering that going to a game is a truly social experience. While there have been several attempts to get a real integration there is still an uneasy peace between the two industries.

However most recently there have been overt attempts to truly combine the two. The New York Giants are embracing Twitter (News - Alert) in a way that no other professional sports team has even dreamed of doing. Now it appears that Ticketmaster is the latest sports related company that is going all in with regards to social media sites.

The Ticketmaster website now offers Facebook (News - Alert) integration so that when you are looking to buy a ticket to an event you can sign in and see who else you know who is going. Of course if you are someone who has over 1,000 friends and about 990 of them are people you don’t care to ever see again this feature means very little.

If however you are someone who would love to run into an old friend at the next Kansas City Chiefs game, this new feature will help you do that. This particular should work with any Ticketmaster event you and your friends are going to as long as everyone who buys a ticket is signed into their profile first.

Of course the program also shows where your Facebook friends are sitting so you can either choose to sit close to them, or if you are currently on the outs as far away as possible. This particular integration comes at a specially fortuitous time for both sites as a new study recently showed that more adults than ever are using the social media giant

It seems that more people than ever are also using anything but Ticketmaster to get their tickets but something like this may drive them back to the company. It’s one thing to know that your friends are going to the same concert or game as you. It’s something altogether different to know where they are sitting and that seems to be something some would pay the extra fees for.
