Social Nuggets Offers Instant Social Media Monitoring Gratification, Ability to Uncover Specific Data

There’s a large divide in the social media monitoring landscape, and Social Nuggets aims to fill it.

That’s the word from R. Paul Singh, co-founder and CEO of the company.

Singh says monitoring for social media today consists of two types of solutions. There are tools that show you how many mentions your company has received in social networking forums, but those don’t provide much detail or value beyond that. On the other end of the spectrum, there are high-end tools from companies like IBM (News - Alert) that provide good quality analytics, but they take months to set up, and users have to wade through a whole lot of data to get to what they want.


“There’s so much of a gap between these two things,” said Singh.

The recognition of this gap led Social Nuggets to design a solution that offers the instant gratification of knowing your company or product was mentioned in a social media forum, and that can get context out of any content, he said.

The Social Nuggets offering is threefold. It provides limited free data on select industries and the social media buzz specific companies and products are receiving. Organizations also can elect to pay for access to a premium portal where more in-depth data is available. And a full data warehouse from Social Nuggets enables users to search actively for the information they seek and get results. The latter two options are/will be priced on a per month basis.

The premium portal will go live at the end of the year. The full data warehouse is available today and customers – including the Consumer Electronics Industry – are already up and running on it.

Social Nuggets has identified 30 verticals for which it developed an understanding of keywords, he says. That includes cloud companies, consumer banking, consumer electronics, hard disc manufacturers, IT vendors and the pharmaceutical space, among others.

As noted, consumer electronics is one of the initial areas of focus for Social Nuggets. The company currently is providing social monitoring data to businesses in this vertical via a free portal. It recently put out a beta related to smartphones; and by next week it expects to have a tablet study also available. The idea is to enable CE players to listen and make sense of social media comments about specific companies and products – such as what people think about the longer battery life of a specific smartphone, or how consumers view the features on one tablet compared to another. Social Nuggets assigns a perception score by company name, product name, etc., based on positive vs. negative mentions.

Social Nuggets began life as Serendio and was renamed in April. It got its start doing custom social media monitoring and analysis jobs working through market research companies.
