Primus Canada's SIP Trunking Gives a Boost to Canadian Small Business VoIP Market

 By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Primus Telecommunications (News - Alert) Canada, a wholly owned subsidiary of Primus Telecommunications Group, Incorporated (PTGi), announced the availability of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Trunking service for small business VoIP customers in Canada.

The cloud-based small business VoIP service, available through Primus Canada Business Services, provides SMBs with a cost-effective and flexible communications service. The service is the most suitable for companies that have already invested in PBX (News - Alert) systems on their premises, but are now looking for a customized service delivery that meets their growing business needs.

SMBs are often forced to adopt the service plans designed for much larger companies, leaving them over served and over charged. The new SIP Trunking from Primus Canada addresses their concerns by offering them a flexible service.

“ Primus Canada has specialized in services for the small and mid-market since our inception, so we understand that these businesses want services that are not only reliable but are also flexible and scalable to meet their needs," said A.J. Byers, executive vice president of Business Services, in a statement.

"With SIP Trunking, companies get the voice-calling services they need with enhanced reliability to ensure that their calls are always answered, as well as a flexible and scalable delivery so they can change their service on the fly to meet their evolving needs," Byers added.

Primus Canada was running the pilot of the new SIP Trunking solution with OSM Solar (OSM), a growing company that designs, assembles, manufactures and distributes Photovoltaic Solar panels in Canada.

"Our company has greatly benefitted from the Primus SIP Trunking," said John Gamble, CEO of OSM, in a statement. "Whether we need to have calls directed to us while at trade shows internationally, add or remove channels, or change the services, SIP Trunking has enabled us to do so without taxing our limited staff resources. It has also helped us reduce costs so we can focus on investing in the growth of our company."

Primus SIP Trunking gives the flexibility to businesses to operate where they want and virtually appear in other markets. They can also make changes to Auto-Attendants or move capacity from one trunk group to another on the fly to quickly adapt to changes in business needs.

The built-in disaster recovery and busy overflow of Primus SIP Trunking ensure calls are always answered. Advanced Auto-Attendant also ensures productivity gains by delivering calls where they need to go. Quality of Service is guaranteed through geographic redundancy and the service can be delivered over a private dedicated circuit.

With Primus SIP Trunking, SMBs can grow quickly. With centralized management, companies can bring together both large and small locations to ensure they are all equally accessible. With the value added features, including Auto-Attendant, Voice Mail, Disaster Recovery, and Busy Overflow, companies can better manage their calls and simplify operations.

The service is available in metered or unmetered options, so it eliminates the need for costly moves, adds, or changes. Thanks to the scalability, companies are not restricted to channel size of a PRI and can add more capacity at anytime so they never have to pay for capacity that is not in use.

In June, Primus Telecommunications Group announced its Board of Directors has appointed Ken Schwarz as Chief Financial Officer, effective July 5. Prior to joining PTGi, Schwarz served as President of Simplexity, an Internet wireless retailer.
