VoSKY Technologies' Skype Business Solution, VoSKY, Chosen by K2

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Associate Editor

VoSKY Technologies, a company that specializes developing Skype (News - Alert) for business solutions, recently announced that its VoSKY Exchange gateway was chosen by K2, Inc., for use in that company’s corporate headquarters.

K2, a global sporting equipment manufacturer, chose VoSKY to provide its employees with Internet-based Skype calling on their desk phones. This Skype for business is made possible by VoSKY routing Skype calls to and from the desk phones using K2’s office PBX.

After the deployment, K2 reported that VoSKY paid for itself in the span of only four weeks by enabling free Skype-to-Skype calls between K2 employees located around the world and at the company’s corporate headquarters in Carlsbad, California.

K2 decided to go with VoSKY as a Skype for business solution because it did not require installation of Skype client software on office PCs. The solution also does not require users to plug in a headset to engage in Skype conversations. Just as important, the solution makes it easy for mobile workers or employees at satellite offices to call colleagues at the Carlsbad headquarters: they simply use their Skype-equipped laptops (or desktops) to click on K2’s main Skype ID, and then select the appropriate office extension.

For headquarter-based users, and for mobile employees, K2’s staff that uses VoSKY has access to free internal calling because the solution automatically directs Skype calls to the Skype network.

K2 is so satisfied with the performance of VoSKY at its corporate office that the company is now deploying additional VoSKY Exchange boxes at its satellite offices. This will allow remote users to make Skype calls from their desk phones rather than their computers, and at the same time will eliminate the complications involved with downloading and installing Skype software.

“We have been interested in using Skype to reduce our long-distance bills, but initially we were discouraged because we faced the prospect of installing Skype software on every user's desktop, having to issue headsets and managing each Skype account individually,” said Sean Andrew, IT director at K2’s Carlsbad headquarters, in a statement.

Andrew continued: “VoSKY Exchange enabled us to painlessly extend our existing PBX (News - Alert) system to incorporate the power of Skype without the complexities and headaches associated with other VoIP solutions. The upshot is that we were able to achieve a return on our investment within one month and are continuing to save thousands of dollars on landline and mobile phone charges each month.”

David Tang, VP of Global Marketing at VoSKY, said that the K2 success story illustrates the value of VoSKY Exchange as a Skype for business enabler—in particular for companies with a widely distributed workforce and heavy international call volume.

“Whether you have one VoSKY Exchange box in the central office like K2 does or multiple boxes installed in each office, you can leverage the full benefits of Skype quickly, easily and inexpensively,” Tang said in a statement.

According to VoSKY Technologies, VoSKY Exchange is the first Skype-certified gateways designed to seamlessly integrate an office phone system and Skype without requiring changes to the PBX, the phones, desktop PCs, or employee phone behavior. The solution supports business applications such as Skype trunking, interoffice connectivity, remote VoIP access, and Web click-to-call.

VoSKY Exchange is rack-mountable and stackable, and it can support up to 16 concurrent inbound and unlimited outbound Skype calls. The solution also centralizes Skype activities to a single computer, greatly simplifying account management, usage, and billing. Perhaps best of all, VoSKY works with both traditional (TDM) and IP-based PBXs.
