Technologies partner MetaSwitch recently reached a new milestone in its partnership with competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) One Communications (News - Alert). The CLEC
transitioned several of its key markets from legacy voice to next-generation VoIP using MetaSwitch’s (News - Alert) voice services platform.
MetaSwitch is a provider of switching and applications solutions for both packet and circuit-switched networks. Its MetaSphere service delivery platform and applications suite enables a broad set of hosted IP
communications services, while its core session control and media/signaling gateway products support a full range of Class 4/5 softswitch capabilities.
The migration noted here is occurring in stages, and will eventually expand to the eitre network. So far, it has been completed in the Wisconsin communities of Appleton, Green Bay and Madison. Return on investment from the migration is expected within 15 months.
Already, the new technology has enabled One Communications to realize significant operational cost savings in terms of power consumption and other efficiencies.
"Our partnership with MetaSwitch was a key component in how quickly and smoothly this transition has gone," said Russ Oliver, senior vice president of strategy for One Communications, in a statement. "The commitment of their entire organization, from the sales team to its highly skilled professional services organization, has provided real value at every interaction."
One Communications had already deployed MetaSwitch's softswitch
platforms network- wide and implemented a "cap and grow" program for new lines of service.
"One Communications' successful network migration demonstrates the highest level of commitment to its customers and is a clear indication of its intent to be at the forefront of service innovation," said Graeme MacArthur, MetaSwitch's chief executive officer, in a statement. "To support their strategy, our commitment to One Communications was that we'd help them through each step in this migration, providing the vital support and services they required to realize their operational, service and business objectives."
One Communications, with corporate offices in Rochester, NY and Waltham, MA, is one of the largest privately-held competitive local exchange carrier in the U.S. The company’s customer-focused approach offers an attractive alternative to the big phone companies, with a superior level of service, support and personal attention. One Communications serves more than 160,000 businesses, in 16 states throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Upper Midwest regions.
