Sagemcom's IP Fax Integration with Exchange 2010 Takes Faxing to a Whole New Level

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

The importance of fax technology in the enterprise hasn't diminished with the introduction of new innovations; instead it has evolved to fit the all-IP environment. One perfect example of this integration is the harmony between the Microsoft (News - Alert) Exchange Server 2010 Unified Messaging platform and Sagemcom's XMediusFAX solution.

Direct support for fax functionality was inherent in the Exchange 2007 Unified Messaging platform. With this latest release, however, Microsoft decided to open the doors to third-party fax solution providers to interoperate with Exchange 2010. Now, XMediusFAX fills this void.

Integration between Microsoft Exchange 2010 and XMediusFAX ensures users can benefit from such features as outbound faxing, fax archiving, process automation and advanced inbound routing.

A drop-in solution, the XMediusFAX delivers simple migration and robust operation based on T.38 FoIP. Secure communication is delivered through TLS and SSL encryption and cost efficiency is realized by enabling all fax functions to reside on user desktops.

With the XMediusFAX release 6.5, Sagemcom officials said it takes basic fax functionality to a whole new level, delivering features that surpass expectations in its Exchange 2010 UM integration. Specific offerings include interoperability with SIP TCP; future proofing with TCP + TLS; and secure e-mail communications with SMTP + TLS.

While the Microsoft Exchange 2010 server introduced a new way of managing the platform, the XMediusFAX solution has actually been deployed alongside Microsoft products for a number of years.

When used in a Microsoft technology environment, XMediusFAX delivers unique capabilities related to the integration of Microsoft Exchange and Active Directory Services. As a result, there is no need to install, configure or maintain any proprietary connectors within Exchange as Active Directory takes care of the process.

Fax functionality was truly given a new focus with the introduction of Microsoft's Exchange Server 2010 UM platform. Sagemcom was charged with providing fundamental contributions to the Microsoft fax specifications.

Sagemcom is one of the few Microsoft partners whose fax solution has undergone and passed the interoperability specification testing stipulated by Microsoft and conducted by an independent certification body.

To be selected as a Microsoft Exchange 2010 partner, Sagemcom had to demonstrate that its XMediusFAX software-only IP fax server solution met a set of stringent requirements for ensured interoperability with Exchange 2010.

As a result of this partnership, those companies migrating from Exchange 2007 to 2010 can be sure their ability to receive inbound faxes is subject to only minimum disruption to configuration and operations. Such delivery in support and operation enhances the value of the XMediusFAX solution for all Exchange 2010 UM users.
