The idea of the paperless office is one whose time has officially come. Sagemcom (News - Alert) is a company that can help firms make the move to a paperless office by offering up expansive digitization services, like IP Fax. The company has just taken another big step towards this goal with the announcement that it has integrated the ABBYY Cloud OCR to its Demat’Box (News - Alert) scanner.
This integration means that people who are already using the Demat’Box will now be able to scan documents and send them directly to the ABBYY cloud. ABBYY’s OCR software will then convert the scanned document to digital text. This now allows the scanned document to be saved as a searchable PDF, making it that much easier for people running a large office to put together a digital archive, where there was once just hard copies.

“The Demat’Box scanner is designed to make the process of digitizing documents easy,” explained Stephane Manac’h, director of business development, Sagemcom Documents, in a statement. “By using ABBYY’s award-winning, high quality OCR delivered via the ABBYY Cloud service we can offer our users text recognition and document conversion directly from the scanner, without the need to connect to, and wait for, a computer to start up.”
When a company is looking to make the move to a paperless office, there can be a bit of trepidation accompanying the transition. By offering up features like this, along with a tool that will actually show people what they are saving by making the move, Sagemcom is looking to allay those fears.
Going paperless is more than just making sure that you can fax something without the need for an actual paper feeder. Being able to get rid of cumbersome piles of paper is always going to be a critical step in the process.
