This January, it was revealed that the Straight Talk iPhone would no longer be offering the compatible AT&T (News - Alert) SIM cards, and apparently, this is ruffling the feathers of a few people.
Even worse, it’s positioning the phone to be “less attractive” without it. The Straight Talk iPhone (News - Alert) was a great way for users to use an iPhone 5 or older without an AT&T contract and allowed users to use an AT&T smartphone without needing to lock it; however, they may not want to use it anymore if its SIM cards are M.I.A.
Apparently, the Straight Talk AT&T SIM was removed off of the Straight Talk website, and soon after, the SIM card that is used to connect the iPhone or Galaxy S3 to the AT&T network through Straight Talk became virtually impossible to find.
“At least one portion of the Straight Talk page gives hope that AT&T will connect with Straight Talk again. The FAQ section mentions AT&T compatible phones without the unlocked language listed on the main page,” according to one report.
The report continues to elaborate as to why the Straight Talk AT&T SIM Card matters so much:
There are a large number of AT&T iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 devices for sale on the secondary market. These iPhones are often available on Craigslist and other markets for less than the price of an iPhone with a new two-year contract. Unfortunately, these devices must now be unlocked to work with Straight Talk on T-Mobile (News - Alert). While the seller can contact AT&T for an unlock, it’s not as easy for the buyer to get a second-hand AT&T smartphone unlocked.
Basically, without AT&T towers, Straight Talk’s value is severely lessened; however, only time will tell what happens.
