The convergence of different technologies in telecommunications is allowing communication service providers (CSPs) the opportunity to introduce improved rich communication services (RCS) to their customers. Powerful processing technology on feature-rich mobile devices, 4G/LTE (News - Alert) adoption and cloud computing is making this possible. As new features become available in the market place, CSPs are eager to start offering these options to increase revenue and acquire new customers.
Comverse, a global provider of telecom business solutions with service innovation and smart monetization, is testing RCS as well as other digital services with leading CSPs in North America and other regions.
As more telecommunications companies take steps to introduce RCS, Comverse (News - Alert) is conducting a trial by giving select users hands on experience with the new capabilities. The groups that have been chosen were able to experience advanced digital communication services powered by the company's Evolved Communication Suite (ECS).
According to early market activity results, the groups have shown strong interest with the digital lifestyle services and many of the features it offers. This includes delivering seamless interworking with existing services such as voice and video calls over IP, one-to-one and group chat, file transfer, video and image content sharing, and robust multi-device support.
The Comverse ECS is designed with multi-device/multi-platform clients, WebRTC gateway and centralized H-Base storage to deliver a wide range of digital lifestyle services. By providing these services CSPs will be able to attract new customers as well as keep their existing customer base as they face competition from OTT. The Comverse IP services can be delivered with on-premises, virtualized and cloud-based SaaS (News - Alert) models to give CSPs a platform with the flexibility to scale locally, nationally or globally.
Comverse ECS delivers IMS standard-based solutions for mobile VoIP, RCS and IP messaging while supporting the evolution of CSPs in a digital environment that is constantly changing. This platform leverages the existing services a company provides and adds the latest solutions in the market place to remain part of the subscribers’ digital lifestyle.
"Widespread 4G/LTE adoption, smartphone penetration and growing user expertise with over-the-top (OTT) Internet offerings all make the timing right for CSPs to leverage their key asset – the ubiquitous existing voice and messaging services used by virtually everyone – to boost their relevance to customers, protect and expand their revenues and become an integral part of subscribers' digital lifestyle," said Aashu Virmani, VP of product management and product marketing at Comverse.
