Telefonica (News - Alert), a Spanish telecommunications operator, is bringing the joyn Rich Communication Service (RCS) to Windows Phone 8. The telco is planning to introduce the IP-based messaging service controlled by operators to the Nokia Lumia 920.
In November, Movistar, Orange and Vodafone (News - Alert) launched RCS through joyn. The RCS service is now available on a variety of mobile devices. Movistar is the Spanish mobile operator owned by Telefonica brand.
joyn services enable customers to enrich their chat and messaging with images and video simultaneously during calls. The service is available on different types of mobile devices. joyn services are offered at no cost and are also ad free. joyn also has plans to support VoIP or IP video calling in the near future. The VoIP services may be used in both mobile networks and network operators Wi-Fi wireless.
Movistar, Vodafone and Orange have launched the service with device manufacturers like Samsung, LG, HTC, Sony and Nokia (News - Alert) with embedded joyn to improve the customer experience.
Specifically, Samsung Galaxy SIII models, LG Optimus L9, One S HTC, Nokia Lumia 920 and Sony Xperia Z are the first models on which the RCS suite will be incorporated. These mobile manufacturers have plans to gradually expand the offering to the rest of their mobile portfolio.
Devices that are designed to use joyn have undergone a rigorous certification process consisting stringent performance and interoperability testing to ensure quality, privacy, security and ubiquity of services.
With RCS now available on three operators, customers with any terminal Android (News - Alert) 2.2 or higher can download the application from Google Play. The solution will soon be available for iOS, according to company officials.
Spain becomes the first country in the world to provide a fully interoperable rich communications solution, supported by Movistar, Orange (News - Alert) and Vodafone, to its mobile subscribers.
