Doug Makishima, chief operating officer of D2 Technologies, the market provider of embedded IP communications software platforms, will join key industry leaders to discuss the evolution on mobile communications services in a panel at CES (News - Alert) 2013 tonight, January 7 at 5:00 p.m. PST.
With the wealth of communication mediums available to users today, from text and cell to VoIP, video, IM, social networks and beyond, device manufacturers, service providers, software vendors and others are scrambling to add enhanced connectivity to previous stand-alone devices and multiplying the number of communication options on desktop, mobile and CPE devices. The next major trend is the unification of these communication mediums, eliminating the service-silo focus and replacing it with an integrated, user-centric solution that makes the underlying services transparent and the connection interface completely seamless.
The aim of the panel is to discuss how smarter devices and ubiquitous high-speed mobile data access via 4G and Wi-Fi fuel the evolution of richer IP-based communication services such as HD voice, instant messaging, video calling and content sharing. D2’s VoIP and IP communications software are the products of choice for top-tier communication OEMs and service providers because they drive revenue and differentiate their solutions in key segments of the communications market.
Popularized by Over-The-Top (OTT) offerings such as Skype (News - Alert), WhatsApp, FaceTime and enterprise unified communications (UC) solutions, mobile operators are now successfully deploying Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and rich communications suite (RCS) services that provide advanced communications capabilities. As their appetite grows for advanced communication modes beyond traditional voice and SMS, mobile subscribers now have more options than ever before.
"As mobile operators migrate legacy voice and SMS services to LTE (News - Alert) networks using IMS, there's an opportunity to simultaneously provide rich communications via RCS," noted Makishima. He added that with optimized and interoperable VoLTE and RCS capabilities, D2's mCUE 4G IMS client software provides mobile device OEMs and IC vendors.
Doug Mohney, editor-in-chief of HD Voice News, will moderate the panel, “Richer Mobile Communications through Broadband: Learn why the Apple iPhone (News - Alert) 5 supports HD voice, MetroPCS favors 'rich' communications services (RCS) over HD voice, and what RCS apps are available through joyn and OTT. Enabled by faster HSPA+ and LTE networks, the mobile industry is moving to HD voice and a new wave of interactive RCS.”
Makishima will be joined by Alan Percy, senior director of strategic marketing, NA, AudioCodes and Jeffrey Rodman, co-founder and chief evangelist, Polycom (News - Alert), at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
