If you were longing for a relaxing vacation while traveling through the beautiful country of Thailand, you might not have received exactly what you were looking for, that is, assuming you wanted to do any activity involving power. That is because within areas including Phuket, Hat Yai and Koh Samui, nearly eight million residents and tourists witnessed what is now being deemed the country’s largest power blackout in its history.

Starting at around 7 p.m. local time last week, the three southern regions were assisted by members of the military, whose responsibility had nothing to do with getting the power back up but rather was to assure residents that they were safe and that they would be seeing the power return as soon as possible. However, because for almost a decade citizens of these areas have seen guerilla war raging between different parties killing almost 5,000 people, many first thought the military was responsible for the blackout.

According to the local tourist association in Phuket, “The impact of the blackout on everyone, especially the business sector, was big. Two hours for life to stop are too long.”

While ultimately the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand revealed that a downed high-voltage cable placed at the main transmission route from central Thailand to the south was to blame for the outage, it prompted many to wonder how stable Thailand’s power actually is. However, there does seem to be some light at the end of the tunnel for the country, due to the fact that airports were still able to operate during this time.

How is this possible, you ask? With a power protection plan and several vital elements such as back-up power supplies, of course.

When looking at robust power protection suites, you simply can’t overlook one of the biggest and most reliable providers in the space, Minuteman Power Technologies. Realizing the sheer vitality of Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) for computers, servers, peripherals, voice and data communication systems, security systems and other mission-critical equipment, the power protection expert “powers” (pun intended) single-phase UPS products from 400VA to 24KVA, as well as three-phase UPSs that are available from 10kVA to 300kVA.

The company’s website states, “Large or small, we can provide you with the most efficiently engineered solutions for each technology or runtime requirement. Para Systems (News - Alert) also provides the industry's longest warranty plus excellent reseller sales and configuration tools.”

In a client testimonial, Neil Youngblood, MCSE, system administrator advanced, EDS (News - Alert) comments, “Minuteman has repeatedly proven to EDS that its products can eliminate power concerns in challenging situations."

In a country like Thailand, or anywhere around the globe that depends on tourists to improve its economic standing, power challenges must be eliminated immediately.
