It's Storm Season - Where's Your Power Protection?

The storm season this spring in the Midwest is starting to challenge records set in years past. Destination lakes are finding that their water levels have surged past 1993 levels. If you weren’t paying attention in 1993, so much rain fell in such a short amount of time that areas of St. Louis, Kansas City and beyond were under water.

A common question at the time if you were from either city was, “where were you during the flooding?”

A St. Louis native, I was there during that time and saw streets I traveled often forming the bottom of new rivers and lakes. Houses that lined River des Peres in the city were engulfed by the dirty waters, their owners scrambling to preserve what little they could. It was a time when power protection was only one thing on your mind.

While I now live on the other side of the state, storms are still a part of life in the spring. This year especially, the focus tends to be on rainfall and the amount we can withstand. While our house is on a hill and flooding is not a concern, the seemingly non-stop storms do present a challenge of their own.

Thursday night was just one of those nights when a storm arrived to taunt all other storms thus far for 2015. The wind was violent, the downpour relentless and the power outages extensive. While our lights went out numerous times that evening, they did always come back on and we weren’t without power for long. The same couldn’t be said just a few miles down the road.

To the south of the family farm, the violence of the storm took down 15 light poles along the road, rendering all citizens served by that section without power. The utility company did arrive on the scene early the next morning to fix the situation, yet power protection was likely top of mind that morning for those unable to make a pot of coffee or turn on the morning show.

The challenges of such a power outage are much bigger for those who need to do more than watch television and make coffee, however. The individual who relies on a breathing machine connected to the power grid; the professional who works from home; the farmer who needs to check the latest weather reports to know if the rain is coming back – all of these individuals are easily affected by a power outage and could benefit from the right power protection.

Minuteman offers a full line of power protection devices that ensures the individual or company relying on consistent access to power. These devices not only protect the hardware being used, but also work to save data when the power goes down.

While the weatherman can tell us whether or not a storm is coming, he can’t predict a power outage. Even if he could, you’d still need power protection. Check out what Minuteman has to offer and how it may save you a headache the next time the lights go out.
