Nearly 5,000 homes were left without power recently in Oklahoma, thanks to a truck versus utility pole crash. Despite the residential customers who had to fumble through the dark to find candles, businesses with extensive IT infrastructures faced the nightmare of resetting systems that had been disabled during the outage, including VoIP phone networks and company websites. However, businesses that had been using some form of power protection services like those offered by Minuteman can pick up the slack and offer IT teams much needed time to stabilize the network.
The accident was caused by a truck full of teenagers that had lost control and struck a transmission pole in Oswego. The teens only sustained minor injuries, but the pole was completely disabled. Though local power authorities worked quickly to reroute power and deliver it to its customers, this accident only further highlights how fragile electrical networks really can be.
Unfortunately, even only a few seconds without power is enough to completely bring down a business network, which can be devastating and will take hours to fix. In the meantime, customers are less able to interact with the company and revenue is lost. Minuteman offers a solution to this problem in the form of Uninteruptible Power Supplies (UPS). When these devices detect a power outage, they automatically take over and provide an emergency power source to keep critical systems functioning, even if it is only for long enough to safely shut them down.
The fact of the matter is that unforeseen circumstances mean that electrical systems are not as reliable as we wish they were. For businesses that are increasingly relying upon a power source in order to generate income simply can't afford to suddenly lose power, so UPS devices can pick up the slack to ensure that operations continue running smoothly, no matter the business.
