Regardless of where you live on planet Earth, you’re clearly no stranger to the occasional power outage. This universal setback happens for a number of reasons, and chances are, it’s going to do more than leave you in the dark – literally.

Southeast Michigan recently felt the wrath of Mother Nature by way of some serious summer storms and, according to DTE Energy, approximately 42,000 were without power.

Strong winds downed trees, and of course, brought some power lines with them. According to local news sources, DTE Energy had crews working 16-hour shifts to get service up and running.  An outage of this capacity not only affects residential customers, but those who run businesses from their homes and of course, businesses within the area. No power means no business conducted. This can be a huge setback for those who rely on deadlines, and business to bring in income.

It's clear that power outages are becoming a fact of life that small businesses must address. But because small businesses aren't the ones that make headlines when a blackout occurs, it doesn't occur to many owners to take the time to protect against them.

For less severe power disruptions, there's the uninterrupted power supply (UPS) device, which can power a computer when power is out, giving the user time to save any work and turn off his or her computer.

Even when phones remain online, with power outages comes data loss. The most important way to protect data is to keep backups, and to back up when the power is gone, a UPS is a wise investment.

Minuteman Power Technologies, a provider of power protection solutions, offers an array of products geared toward businesses of all sizes, from outlet surge protectors to UPSs.

Using power protection equipment can save businesses thousands in costly damages due to outages as well as keeping things running smoothly and efficiently in the event of an interruption or total outage.

Another essential feature of an uninterruptible power supply is surge protection. Due to its circuitry, a UPS device constantly monitors the incoming voltage, sensing spikes and surges with outages. So, if none of these harmful conditions present themselves to the UPS, the UPS power supply will switch to AC power, preventing a power spike from reaching the connected to it devices.

Power protection solutions, like those from Minuteman Power Technologies, offer a number of great benefits to both business and home use, keeping the computer and electronic systems vital and running through short power outages and preventing damage from possible power loss.
