Power outages happen. We unfortunately live in an age where power gets interrupted. As much as we rely on power for everyday activities, these interruptions are generally not without consequences. It’s critical to have power protection gear in place to protect your home, business and electronic devices, but it’s also important to know the risks.

A recent GV News report explored a few key instances where power protection is essential. While some of these may not be as much of a threat in your area, you’re still at risk if you rely on power to support operations.

Flooding – it doesn’t really matter how much rain you may receive in a given area. The possibility of flooding is a reality for anyone near a source of water. A flash flood due to torrential downpour is one thing; a broken water main that fills your basement office with water is something else. One may give you warning; the other may come in a flash with no indication at all. If you’re not prepared for this kind of interruption, you could lose business.

Electric Shutdowns – more common in some areas than others, electrical shutdowns can cause enough damage of their own. Without surge protectors on your electrical equipment, fluctuations in the provision of power distribution can fry just about anything that gets plugged in. Standby generators are great to ensure you have access to power when you need it. But even a generator can wreak havoc on devices without the right power protection.

Dust Storms – air conditioning filters do a lot of good for electronic equipment as they catch dust before getting into the ductwork or the AC coils. If the filter isn’t changed as often as it should be, you run the risk of causing the AC unit to work harder than it needs to, increasing your electric bill to the point that you want to shut off your power. Regular maintenance on these things is meant to keep costs down and operations optimized.

Wildfires – while not all businesses or homes are located in areas where wildfires are a high risk, any type of fire can threaten your ability to continue with daily activities. A contingency plan is important, as well as keeping brush and other debris away from the house or business. If you can minimize the threat, you’re more apt to stay the course and protect operations.

Even if you don’t run into any of these common threats, you still need to ensure you have the right power protection. Minuteman is an expert in providing that protection, saving data when the power goes down. If you want the ultimate in business continuity protection in the wake of a potential threat, this is one company you will want to have on your side.
