Power Protection and More from the Minuteman 1609

Everybody is talking about power and energy. Newer and greener methods of supplying the much needed and ever increasing demand to power the data center are key components to engineers establishing a modern facility. But the devices that are the brains of the operation need protection from the power source, and Minuteman RPM is filling the void where other solutions don’t bring what’s needed.

Minuteman Power Technologies, founded in 1982, is a supplier of power protection products. With the 1609, Minuteman has created the ultimate control device that allows for individual control of AC power for as many as eight devices, including servers, telephone systems, routers, modems and hubs.

More importantly, according to this Minuteman page, the 1609 will accommodate the addition (daisy chain) of 15 client RPM units that will allow for the management of up to 128 devices through one IP address. With that level of management through one IP address, the system is basically hassle free and a breeze to troubleshoot.

As the name of the unit might suggest, the Remote Power Manager offers a surge rating of 950 joules that will protect valuable equipment on the network against power surges and spikes. It’s not just the hardware that’s protected – the surge and spike power protection technology also ensures that the signal is clean and data transfers are uninterrupted.

Security is an increasingly important part of every network, and the addition of the Minuteman RPM 1609 gives users the password protection they expect from every device on the network. The 1609 also includes fail-safe rebooting from a telephone of any type, whether it’s a landline or mobile phone, which connects through a line dedicated to the RPM.

The Remote Power Manager takes its remote capability seriously – users can manage devices from down the street, across states or across the sea: total device management from anywhere in the world.

The Minuteman RPM also includes a built-in port for dial-up to the Internet connections. With this addition, users can plug in an external modem and get e-mail notification that the connection has been made at a very specific address, which then allows the user total control through a Web browser. Another method of control is through LAN connection, which is the most standard method and involves an Ethernet connection.

The 1609 is unique among other power protection devices on the market today in that it offers control over devices through telephone with no extra modem(s) required. On those occasions when the network takes a dive, the master RPM unit can be called up and reset from anywhere in the world.
