Schneider Electric (News - Alert) has just released two new 150kVA and 175 kVA data center power distribution units (PDUs). The PDUs support 24 individual modules, and the frames have slimmed down from 750 millimeters to 600 millimeters rack widths.

The PDUs deliver built-in power management capability, simplified load balancing with automated power module recognition (including type, length and ampacity) and two 400A sub-feed breakers. For local management and monitoring, data centers can use the PowerView interface or Schneider’s StruxureWare Central data center monitoring software.

The PDUs are designed with TP-1 rated isolation transformers designed to reduce cooling needs by delivering data center power to the load more efficiently. Operators can view distribution network-level power consumption.

The release of its new PDUs follows Schneider’s recent release of a comprehensive energy portfolio for its resellers and channel partners. The portfolio includes a Software Partner Program, an SMB Solutions and Design Tool, new Specialized Learning Paths and new physical infrastructure-focused solutions in the StruxureWare Operations v7.2 software.

Schneider also launched an online data center community so that its channel partners could have a one-stop access point to its education programs, forums, knowledge base and solutions.

The company hopes to capitalize on the explosive growth of cloud computing and virtualization, which will cause many companies to adjust their cooling and power infrastructures as their network infrastructures change.

“As IT services rise in demand, the customers our partners serve will find themselves in greater need of intelligent solutions, driven by volatile energy prices and the sharpening focus on sustainability for companies everywhere,” noted Rob McKernan, Schneider’s North American president of IT Business. “Our goal is to ready our partners to meet this demand.”

Server Technology (News - Alert), a provider of data center power solutions, offers an abundance of power distribution units. The basic PDUs Server Technology offers provide reliable power distribution for all of the devices in the equipment cabinet, from 2kW-6kW per cabinet. Its metered PDUs have local LED input current monitoring and allow network engineers to utilize the PDUs’ True RMS Power Monitor to precisely measure the current (in amps) that network devices are drawing on the power circuit.

Its smart PDUs allow users to monitor power, temperature and humidity levels through any Web browser, and you can get simple network management protocol (SNMP) alerts or e-mail alerts when any of those things exceed thresholds you have previously assigned.
