The uninterruptible power supply (UPS) market, which had one of the best global revenues for the fourth quarter of 2010, shows no signs of slowing down.

A recent Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert) study that examines the European UPS market, including analysis by end-user segments and geographic region and growth forecasts to 2017, indicates that the UPS market is going to continue to burgeon. The report, entitled “European Modular and Scalable UPS Market,” examines the use of UPSs in the following applications: banking and finance operations, information and communication technology, data centers, infrastructure, telecommunication and medical/healthcare.

According to the report, technical advancement in modular UPS is one of the main reasons the UPS market is continuing to experience success. Demand for quality power from data centers that need efficient UPSs with much lower footprint and better efficiency are considered major end-user drivers for modular UPS, the report states.

Other highlights of the article include the fact that high flexibility and reduced footprint will propel the modular UPS systems market toward $404.7 million in 2017. In addition, the market will see increased awareness about the benefits of modular UPS power protection devices.

Those industries that have already begun reaping the benefits of modular UPSs include data centers, healthcare, information and communication technology, infrastructure, telecom and banking. In the coming years, it is expected that mid and small-sized datacenters will drive the market to a great extent, as stated in the report. Moreover, the growth of data centers is increasing rapidly in Europe which will help support this power protection market.

The modular UPS offers energy efficiency, clean power production and unmatched flexibility in terms of space savings and the advantage of expansion by adding modules. The market is expected to register high compound annual growth rate of 15.4 percent between 2010 and 2017.

However, a growth in the market also leads to demand for competitive pricing wars as UPS companies will try to distinguish themselves with regards to price, quality, reliability and availability.

In other power protection news, Minuteman UPS/Para Systems (News - Alert), a leading producer of power protection technologies, wants consumers to know that its PRO-RT UPS can offer resellers “an excellent option for price-conscious end users.”

Bill Allen, director of marketing for Minuteman, called the PRO1000RT “the first sub-$200 true rackmount UPS on the market,” when it was first shipped last June. Describing it as full-featured and value-priced, the PRO1000RT was expected to be “a popular choice for SMB security, telephone, and IT systems,” according to the power protection company.
