Earlier this month, TMCnet had the chance to sit down with Minuteman UPS/Para Systems (News - Alert), a leader in power protection products to discuss what makes the company stand apart and why it is so important to embrace power protection technologies.

While the company is gearing up to release new products in the coming months, Minuteman is also directing its efforts at continuing to promote its legacy products and the success it has had in the extended run time area, in which businesses purchase an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) as well as an additional battery pack so that business can continue operating through extended power outages.

“The market continues to grow and I think it’s a result of our continued and growing dependence on power to power devices and make sure devices stay up and running even through an extended outage,” Minuteman’s Director or Marketing Bill Allen told TMC’s (News - Alert) CEO Rich Tehrani during a video interview.

While an average outage lasts eight to 10 minutes, the average extended power outage is eight hours. Consequently, power protection is of the utmost importance.

“For businesses, eight hours can sometimes be an eternity when they are out of power and business operations come to a screeching halt,” Allen said.

While businesses can come to a “screeching halt,” a surprisingly high number of small and medium sized businesses (SMB) are not turning to power protection.

As Allen explained to Tehrani, according to an Office Depot survey of SMBs, 60 percent of this group does not have adequate power protection installed, nor do they have any type of disaster plan in place. However, SMBs should be considering the mission critical devices that they have in their operation and ranking the devices by priority for which you would like to power in the event of an outage.

“Mission critical devices that require power and have to maintain power you rank higher… because when servers go down, communications systems go down,” Allen said. “A business can lapse into a business coma because they can’t continue to do business.”

For those that recognize the importance of power protection, Minuteman is the company to turn to, according to Allen. The company, founded in 1982, has sold its power protection technologies in more than 100 countries throughout the world.

“Our message to end users and installers and integrators is that minuteman offers better value,” Allen said. “… We’ve grown substantially over the last couple of years and I think it’s a result of Minuteman having a very strong product offering at a very good price which represents better value for customers and that’s our mantra.”
