The idea of power protection is a growing concern for companies and organizations all over the world as theirs operations depend upon consistent and reliable power to function. The challenge in the United States is that utility companies have not kept pace with current demand in terms of equipment updates and power failures are increasing.

To help companies address the challenges inherent in less than 100 percent reliable power delivery, Minuteman UPS/Para Systems delivers power protection solutions. In a recent TMCnet video TMC CEO Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) talks with Bill Allen, director of marketing for Minuteman, to explore what the company is doing in the overall market to empower organizations to leverage reliable power solutions.

Minuteman offers all sorts of power protection solutions. The company has been in the market 28 years and is pretty well-known within the telecom community. Allen stressed that one of the newer trends in the industry is that end users want extended run time capability, and more backup time. Businesses of all sizes businesses are looking for up to eight hours of run time and demanding bigger batteries.

Minuteman released the initial uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) that allowed users to add another battery back to get up to an hour or two of additional backup time. Before the availability of UPSs, companies generally relied on a generator for power backup. The problem with this approach is that a generator can be a single point of failure. If the company has a UPS in conjunction with a generator, it eliminates this single point and provides better backup.

When asked if Minuteman is experiencing lost sales as a result of newer technologies, Allen noted that the hydrogen fuel cells are very expensive, creating a barrier for rapid adoption. This may be coming in the future, but now it is still in the early stages and is not impacting the company right now. Solar, as a power alternative, can be used in conjunction with what Minuteman already sells.

Minuteman currently targets North and South America, with just a minor focus internationally. The company sells its power protection products strictly through the channel and do not sell direct. It has always been a focus for the company to solely support the channels.

As for what is coming next for Minuteman, the company is seeing a big trend in power monitoring and management and recently introduced remote monitoring tools. The Remote Power Manager is now available and allows users to access it through the Internet via the Web browser.

Allen was also asked why companies should look to Minuteman for their power protection solutions. He stressed that reliability is very important for the company, which manufacturers very reliable UPSs. Minuteman also offers the industry’s longest warranty of three years, and batteries are also warranted for three years.

Allen believes organizations can look at Minuteman features against competitive features and they not only match very well, they also exceed others, with prices that tend to be less for power protection solutions. In addition, customers pay for exactly the features they need.

The company has been growing for the last couple of years, said Allen, gaining market share as a result of their value proposition.
