Study Shows Workers Want the Cloud

There’s a very good reason why both consumers and businesses are moving to the cloud as fast as they possibly can: The cloud is more efficient. There’s a real advantage from having your tools with you no matter where you go.

This is confirmed by a recent CloudReady Report put out by workforce management firm, Kronos (News - Alert). It found that 64 percent of workers believe cloud applications play an important role in supporting their day-to-day work, and 83 percent said that, given the opportunity, they would prefer to use cloud applications over those deployed on-premise. They also are bullish about this cloud trend increasing in the workplace as a result of its efficiencies; 79 percent said they expected the cloud trend at work to increase over the next two years.

“Currently workers are freestyling with cloud apps and derive real value from the technology when speed, simplicity, and security are all addressed,” said Brenda Morris, general manager at Kronos in the U.K.

All business functions benefit from the cloud, including having customer relations management, invoicing, email and business phone service available any time, anywhere.

Pie Shop owner, Mims Bledsoe, recently explained in a video case study why their company chose to move to a cloud-based business phone system.

“You don’t have to be sitting at your office desk,” said Bledsoe. “As long as you have an Internet connection, you can connect to the things you use most … so putting your phone system on the cloud makes just as much sense as having email.”

The Pie Shop chose a Vonage (News - Alert) Business phone solution not just because it delivered anywhere access, but also because it reduced telephone costs.

The Vonage business phone offering, for instance, saves businesses at least 30 percent over traditional providers in most cases. That’s because there’s no hardware to buy or maintain such as an on-premise PBX (News - Alert) system. Instead of a closet full of telephony equipment to buy and operate, the Pie Shop let’s Vonage take care of all the work and just logs into its web-based control panel to adjust settings and make changes to service.

The system is managed virtually, allowing much more control for the business, as noted in a recent Vonage blog post.

The cloud just makes sense, as both anecdotal evidence and numbers from the CloudReady Report suggest.
