Positron's PBX Systems Certified Interoperable with babyTEL's SIP Trunking Service

By Patrick Barnard, Group Managing Editor, TMCnet

Positron Telecom’s Asterisk-based PBX (News - Alert) systems are now certified interoperable with babyTEL’s SIP trunking service.

That means companies that deploy Positron Telecom’s “plug-and-play” PBX-on-a-card systems can seamlessly integrate babyTEL’s SIP Trunking service to create a full-featured, enterprise-grade VoIP phone system.

“Positron Telecom has worked closely with babyTEL to offer a strong solution,” said Richard McGravie, President of Canada-based Positron Telecom, in a release. “This integration ensures that nothing goes wrong with the SIP Trunk configuration during the crucial setup phase of a customer installation.”

Positron Telecom’s PBX systems combine IP PBX, media gateway, Ethernet and echo canceller on a single PCI (News - Alert) card, thus making them many times simpler to deploy. What’s more, the company claims to have the only SIP-enabled PCI card on the market that allows system integrators to create custom, scalable and easily-supported solutions for Microsoft OCS.

What makes Positron Telecom’s solutions unique, compared to the products of other Asterisk (News - Alert) telephony board makers, is that they come with SIP already embedded on the card itself, which saves installers time. Competing telephony board makers only offer line card interfaces which are bound to the application via a driver. That means if you want to change applications, you’ll need further development.

Positron Telecom products, however, don’t need a driver and can process SIP traffic directly. Because each board is a “standalone” system that only requires power from the PC, it can be installed into any operating system environment.

Standards-based protocols means integration with leading UC systems such as Microsoft (News - Alert) OCS is a snap. Because Positron’s V-series telephony products install as Ethernet adapters into the host PC and can directly take SIP traffic from other systems, that means no CPU load on the host PC; no hardware interrupts issued on the host PC for TDM channels; plus the built-in echo canceller means no echo processing on the host PC.

In addition, there is no “codec penalty” on the host PC; board-to-board communication is free to occur, using SIP; load balancing is easily achieved, using SIP; and any mixture of boards can be used in the host PC as the actual interface is transparent to the system.

What’s more these boards can be configured to support a call center – plus they also offer support for fax right out of the box.

Positron Telecom offers free installation and configuration support, free software upgrades, no limitation on the user configuration such as the number of IVR menus, a multilingual user interface and an out of the box solution, which allows resellers to co-brand the user interface for clients.

babyTEL's Enterprise VoIP service offers numerous features and fixed price packages. The service was developed to meet today's business requirements to support virtual presences, multiple locations, satellite offices, mobile work force and tele-workers.

'This announcement represents babyTEL’s continued commitment to Enterprise VoIP,” said Steve Dorsey, president and CEO of babyTEL. 'We are very pleased to have the opportunity to work with an innovative company like Positron Telecom. Our combined unique solution offers valuable features and benefits, providing a total telephone solution to the business community.'
