Out-of-band management solutions eliminate the hurdles associated with managing mission-critical applications and devices located at remote places. Remote monitoring is a key component within out-of-band management.
To help eliminate the complexity involved in remotely managing devices within a protected network, AVI-SPL (News - Alert), a video communications provider, launched a new capability as part of its VNOC Symphony platform.
"Every video managed service provider today requires a connection to the customer's network in order to monitor and access video components in the protected network. The challenge is security and reliable bi-directional communication with each device being managed," said John Vitale, vice president of products, AVI-SPL, in a statement.
According to Vitale, the Communicator Proxy ensures the customer is receiving a simple yet secure solution that provides the services they need. The solution leverages the existing firewall technology to communicate between the main Symphony cloud application and the Communicator Proxy on the customer's network. Hence, it extends the capabilities of Symphony platform beyond a customer firewall.
Further, the product has the ability to remotely manage a meeting room environment without the need for costly dedicated network connections and complex security configurations. Communicator Proxy also addresses some key functions that were previously performed by the main Symphony platform in the cloud.
The solution provides standards-based polling of all devices within the customer's network and reports the information back to the VNOC Symphony cloud in real-time. It consolidates all communication to a single entity and then provides the information to the VNOC, minimizing communication to a single device traversing customer security measures as well.
With its automated call launching ability and device control, the Communicator Proxy provides a secure link from the Symphony cloud to the Communicator Proxy which then sends the information to the hundreds of devices located on the secure network.
The Communicator Proxy also provides a secure, single egress point for the VNOC to access the devices via their integrated remote management capabilities. This dramatically simplifies the network connectivity and security policies between the VNOC and the customer.
The remote management solution, combined with AVI-SPL's service architecture, provides a new level of features to address the expanding number of devices being managed in rural locations while
minimizing security requirements for remote management overall.
