SugarCRM Helps Oregon State DHS Achieve Compliance and Improve Communications

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

SugarCRM announced recently a new customer win from the State of Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS).

They chose SugarCRM for their Sugar Cube Appliance and its ability to deliver on demand CRM with enhanced security. Because of this, they were able to become HIPAA compliant without the need to have paper-based transactions.

The department, which has 9,500 employees needed a system to better handle communications with 35,000 healthcare providers, while also achieving regulatory compliance. Compliance with HIPAA, which oversees electronic healthcare transactions, was a main goal as well as the need to eliminate paper transactions.

Bill Crowell, Chief Information Officer, State of Oregon Department of Human Services commented in a statement, "SugarCRM was one of the greatest successes within DHS over the last year. We achieved HIPAA compliance, delivered a centralized and secure data set with reporting capacities that were extremely easy to use. We were expecting 60,000 claims per month that were electronic would go back to paper. With SugarCRM, we only had to process 60+ paper-based claims. This was an enormously successful effort. We would have hired hundreds of people to process the case load and the error rates would have been much higher."

SugarCRM also made headlines recently when they announced a partnership with Scalix, a provider of Linux-based enterprise messaging software to integrate their services and make available to their mutual customers, an advanced CRM / Messaging solution that offers both open source and Linux customers a rich environment for completing tasks.

For enterprise sales teams, the integration means a more efficient environment for managing sales and customer accounts and a seamless move between Outlook, email and SugarCRM software on the Linux environment. These advanced capabilities enhance efficiency and help improve the chance of closing a sale

The company also announced today, more than 1,000 paying customers and over 1,000,000 downloads of their Sugar Open Source, worldwide.

Open Source provides companies of all sizes with a cost effective, flexible alternative to proprietary applications. SugarCRM's software helps industries to better their customer relationships and business performance.
