Telestream Moves to Address Issues of Multi-Platform Streaming

Streaming video on multiple platforms can be a challenge for any content delivery network (CDN), and Telestream likely has this challenge firmly in mind. Recently, Telestream brought out a slate of new tools geared toward showing off broadcast quality streaming solutions, including improved video encoding and new developments in enterprise services at the cloud level.

Lightspeed Live Stream is one of the biggest new advances, which brings together both broadcast and over-the-top (OTT) together in a live space. That gives users access to a live streaming platform that allows for premium content to be provided to end users, regardless of what these users are working with in terms of devices.

Lightspeed Live Capture, meanwhile, allows for encoding of multiple resolutions of video, going from standard definition (SD) to ultra-high definition (UHD), allowing for even the new 4K video to be realized. Using multiple central processing unit (CPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU) cores, along with ASIC codec acceleration, the system can supply a streaming proxy for every channel processed, opening up the full range of potential.

Telestream Wirecast is also newly introduced, and allows several streaming platforms—including Facebook (News - Alert) and YouTube—to come together to produce a larger streamed data package. Telestream has been working on live streaming since 2004, reports note, and works to improve not only encoding and transcoding, but also partner integrations and better live streaming.

Vice president of enterprise product management for Telestream Paul Turner (News - Alert) commented “The challenge facing broadcasters today encompasses OTT multi-platform delivery much more than ever before - the quality of their multi-platform offerings – both live and file-based - can be the difference in today’s fluid consumer-centric market.”

Telestream's new systems will certainly make it more competitive in the market, and it's already going to have its share of competition to watch out for in the field. Teridion, for example, has an array of features in this marketing and a slew of customers—from Box (News - Alert) to ShareVault and plenty in between—that are already turning to its solutions for quality streaming capability.  With Teridion's ability to set up in minutes, an improved focus on compliance and security, and better control of operations, companies like Telestream are going to have to keep up the performance just to hold current market ground.

The streaming field is becoming increasingly competitive as more users turn to streaming options for desired content. Companies like Telestream and Teridion are just a part of the larger market, and the rush to deliver the best in services means that new developments like Telestream's will be part of the field for some time.
