The data center market is growing like gangbusters, fueled by increasing amounts of data, cloud apps and services and technology trends toward more intelligent and efficient networking and data management. And the market for products powering the data center, including distribution, management, backup and cabling solutions, is also growing at a phenomenal pace.

New research from MarketsandMarkets shows the global data center power market is set to reach $20.44 billion by 2020, growing at a very healthy 10.7 percent CAGR from this year. There are a number of variables driving growth, including the need for efficient asset management in tandem with power capacity in data centers.

Power utilization is one of the top operating expenses in any data center, and operators are increasingly seeking out energy efficient solutions that perform better at providing high levels of reliability and availability. These offerings must be both cost effective as well as advanced enough to keep up with changing technology trends in data centers.

According to MarketsandMarkets, government and regulatory body mandates have also played a role in market growth, as data centers seek to reduce their energy consumption and carbon footprints. This has helped boost demand for energy efficient power solutions, along with the need to meet technological challenges while keeping up with trends like SDN and NFV.

Panduit is one company smack in the middle of this burgeoning market, with a specialization in energy efficient power distribution and affiliated products. In fact, many of the company’s offerings include integrated intelligent software geared toward reducing costs and increasing energy efficiency and resilience. Solutions also perform real-time monitoring and collect data to help data center operators make decisions to improve efficiencies even more.

Regionally, the APAC data center power market is growing at the fastest rate, and developing regions and economies also make up a good portion of market share. These markets are building up their data center presence and are seeking advanced and energy efficient solutions out of the gate. The North American market is also performing healthily and is expected to achieve 30.98 percent of total marketshare by 2020.

In terms of vertical markets, IT and telecom are contributing to a hefty portion of spending on data center power, followed by the BFSI market.
