Network Processor: WinPath Expert Services Provider Asidua Sells Carrier Ethernet Protocol Stack

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

WinPath Expert Services (WES) provider Asidua has sold its Ethernet Operations and Administration & Maintenance (EOAM) stack to a leading Tier 1 telecommunications client.

This sale, according to company officials, marks a further significant milestone in Asidua’s partnership with PMC-Sierra (News - Alert). Asidua was endorsed by PMC-Sierra/Wintegra as preferred supplier for providing a complete portfolio of services focused on the WinPath product family.

The family of Carrier-Class Ethernet Control Plane Stacks for WinPath Architecture-based Access Processors was acquired by Asidua and Wintegra (News - Alert) in 2009. Wintegra is a provider of world-class network processors for the access, wireless and broadband markets.

Following on from their extensive development program, supported by the European Regional Development Fund under the European Sustainable Competitiveness Program for Northern Ireland, Asidua introduced two new software product lines, WinStacks and WinXtends, designed to help complement their existing WinPath Expert Services offering.

WinStacks and WinXtends products allow clients to reduce costs and delivery times, while still allowing them to fully exploit the hardware acceleration aspects of the Wintegra WinPath processor family, according to company officials.

The WinStacks range currently includes for Ethernet LAG (Link Aggregation) and Ethernet OAM (Ethernet Operations, Administration & Maintenance). They are specifically designed for the WinPath processor family.

The stacks are useful for applications involving Ethernet interfaces across domains including Wireless/WiMAX (News - Alert), Aggregation & Transport, DSL/PON and dedicated Carrier Ethernet deployments.

Globally, the penetration of ‘Ethernet in the first mile’ EFM services is increasing, so telecommunications product vendors will continue to add the necessary control plane protocols to their products. “Since becoming a preferred supplier for Wintegra, which was recently acquired by PMC Sierra, we have experienced a high volume of business wins due to our unrivalled top-to-bottom WES offering,” said Eddie Millsopp, head of Device Services at Asidua, in a statement.

“To further enhance our offering and increase our customers’ velocity in delivery of their product roadmaps, we developed off-the-shelf product ranges that would allow our clients to benefit from increased efficiencies,” Millsopp added.
