Network Processor: Advantech Launches Intel Atom-Powered Industrial PCs

By Ashok Bindra, TMCnet Contributor

Targeting kiosks, factory and machine automation control applications, Taiwan’s embedded products and network processor solutions provider Advantech has launched a fanless, embedded industrial PC (IPC (News - Alert)) integrated with display interface. The new embedded ARK-1503 IPC is powered by Intel’s Atom network processors D525/D425 with up to 1.8 GHz clock speed and DDR3 support.

According to Advantech, the ARK-1503 IPC enables much better power savings, while providing top performance and rich I/O capability. Plus, depending on the application, one of two touch monitor connecting options can be selected -- an I-Panel link, or a golden finger. The maker said that the all new design technology simplifies application integration.

With integrated graphics and memory controllers, the dual-core network processors deliver graphics core rendering speeds from 200 to 400 MHz while maintaining excellent power efficiency, said Advantech (News - Alert). Besides higher speed and lower power consumption, the ARK-1503 system also features low-profile design. Typical power consumption for the unit is 12 W (without power to the panel).

A compact sealed construction with fanless operation, the IPC unit measures 230.6-mm x 133-mm x 44.4-mm. It also provides rich I/O capabilities and high bandwidth. In addition, it supports 2 Giga LAN and four USB 2.0 ports. Other features include integrated LVDS interface, mini PCIe expansion slot for communication module, one drive bay space for 2.5-inch hard disk drive (HDD), one external CompactFlash socket for type I/II CompactFlash disk and 12 Vdc power input.

Advantech said that ARK-1503 IPC is Microsoft (News - Alert) Windows complaint and the unit pricing for the embedded IPC starts at $480.
