Got Mobile VoIP? Here's What Your Business Can Do

By Michelle Amodio, TMCnet Contributor

As mobile phone usage starts to take the place of its landline counterpart, businesses are in search of inexpensive ways to communicate with the workforce and customers. With VoIP being the global phenomenon that it is, text messaging and long-distance calls have seen a decrease over mobile networks – especially as inexpensive VoIP services are more easily available.

Analysts and experts agree that as businesses look to increase efficiency while cutting costs, not to mention move away from rising mobile phone costs, long contracts and traditional plans will be a thing of the past. Much like VoIP providers, mobile VoIP service providers will begin to bundle their services, making it easier for businesses to make the move towards a more mobile-centric communications system.

So, what can a business do with mobile VoIP?

Be versatile.

With mobile VoIP, you can forward any call to any mobile device, making the service just as valuable outside of an office setting as it would be inside. Thanks to VoIP, you need not worry about giving your personal phone number to clients if you are not prepared to do so; they’ll still be able to reach you through the normal business channels, but on your mobile device instead of a desk phone.

You can lower your bills.

Depending on the service you choose, there is typically no extra cost associated with connecting your mobile phone to your VoIP service. All you need to do is download a free app and you’ll be able to use your mobile VoIP services without any hassle. Considering how cheap voice over technology is in the first place, it’s nice to know that it doesn’t cost much to keep your professional life as polished as possible.

You can converge your fixed and mobile communications.

Mobile VoIP makes it possible for incoming calls to your business number to ring both your office and mobile phones, as well as any other phones you specify, at the same time or in sequence. Most IP phone systems offer some such capabilities.

Because mobile VoIP offers the potential for unlimited voice calls for far less than traditional mobile voice plans, it would behoove businesses to switch to this lower cost alternative when it comes to obtaining a phone service.
