New Technology Isn't a Roadblock with this Hosted Softswitch

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Don’t you just love advances in technology – as long as they don’t make your life more complicated? While some of us are first adopters and can’t wait for the next thing to hit the market, there are still others of us that don’t want to have to learn a new platform, transfer files or change any processes. I tend to fall into the second group, unless the technology offers a way to simplify.

In the office environment, it can make a lot of sense to implement the hosted softswitch instead of the traditional landline. More than a few companies have already taken this approach, and for good reasons: streamlined communications, lower cost and removed responsibility, to name a few. There is that transition period, however, where users have to learn a new system, configure passwords, setup PINS and more. It’s not uncommon for this transition to be met with disdain.

When the hosted softswitch extends to supporting mobility, the transition can be even more painful. Yet mobility is still an important part of the business model. For this reason, REVE Systems set out to make the process simpler. The company’s iTel Mobile Hybrid Dialer was designed with the user in mind, automating the use of calling cards and providing IP calling facility.

At the same time, the application supports PIN-less software, allowing users to complete VoIP calls directly from their mobile phones. It’s the perfect extension of VoIP capability from the office and into the field. It supports 3G/4G and GPRS and stores access number or PIN number information on the calling card in its memory upon first use. Mobile users no longer have to remember and enter this information each time they want to make a call.

Taking the benefits another step further, the iTel Mobile Hybrid Dialer will also directly integrate with the mobile user’s phone book for all calling card and VoIP calls, allowing for numberless calling each time. This integration and the storage of information on first use allows customers to easily automate their mobile calling. It truly extends some of the best features of the hosted softswitch capabilities and extends them to users on the go.

When automation, complete support, mobile VoIP and PIN-less calling are all part of a new technology, it may just be worth the initial trouble to get it up and running. In the case of the iTel Mobile Hybrid Dialer, it looks like the new learning only has to happen once and you can go right back to old habits. Now that’s great new technology.
