By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor

Based on the recently published report by Dell'Oro Group, the mobile infrastructure market revenues increased 33 percent in the fourth quarter of 2010 to $11.2 billion. The report suggests that the market expansion was a result of continued strong WCDMA sales, and also because of a boost in the 2G market. Apart from this, vendors started recognizing significant LTE infrastructure revenues during the fourth quarter. The Dell' (News - Alert)Oro Group is one of most trusted sources for market information when it comes to the networking and telecommunications industries.

In a release, Stefan Pongratz, analyst of mobile infrastructure research at Dell'Oro Group said that, "The demand for mobile broadband is spreading throughout the world, and we saw strong WCDMA performance in all regions as the massive growth in data traffic resulted in operators worldwide investing in their 3G networks. The fourth quarter marked the first period of significant LTE (News - Alert) revenues. While the U.S. operators led in terms of covered LTE population, it was the European vendors who took the lead in the LTE infrastructure market. Ericsson (News - Alert), Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia Siemens in particular, accounted for 80 percent of LTE infrastructure revenues during the quarter."

The Dell'Oro Group Mobility Infrastructure Quarterly Report provides complete and detailed coverage of the market with tables covering manufacturers' revenue, average selling prices, transceiver or RF carrier shipments, and unit shipments for base station controllers, base transceiver stations, and mobile switching centers for GSM/GPRS/EDGE, CDMA, WCDMA, WiMAX (News - Alert) and LTE.

In related news, a recent market research report from Dell'Oro Group indicates that the Ethernet Switch market reached record revenue and port shipments in 2010, with revenue growing 30 percent year-over-year to nearly $20 billion in L2-L3 switching. The report indicates that Juniper had the strongest year-over-year growth, followed by Dell, Cisco (News - Alert), then HP.
