Pantech Selects Mocana VeloDAR for Android handsets, Tablets

By Rahul Arora, TMCnet Contributor

Pantech, a handset manufacturer for the Android (News - Alert) platform, recently announced that it is using the VeloDAR solution from Mocana (News - Alert) to secure its newest line of Android handsets and tablets. According to the officials from Pantech, the company also plans to include the Mocana VeloDAR encryption in upcoming upgrades for several of its most popular handset and tablet models, including the Pantech Flex.

VeloDAR Encryption is an optimized DAR encryption solution for Android devices. The result is a high performing and efficient encryption solution with virtually zero performance penalties, such as reduction in battery life, speed of data accessing and overall user experience. Furthermore, with the assurance that the encrypted data can be implemented with an optional FIPS 140-2 Level 1 cryptography module, device manufacturers can be confident that their device will meet the stringent security needs of consumers, enterprises and even government agencies.

“Customers are becoming more demanding when it comes to security, and carriers are setting high security bars, too,” said Pantech COO Joon Woo Lee. “Mocana’s solutions make it much easier for us to comply with security requirements from different carriers in our United States and European Union markets. Our research tells us that consumer and enterprise end-users want the new security features, too, so we believe these new product lines will prove to be quite popular.”

“Android users need to be especially careful these days,” said Kurt Stammberger, CISSP, Mocana’s vice president of market development. “One of the most important things a consumer or enterprise user can do to protect themselves is to enable data-at-rest encryption on their device. Pantech has tightly integrated Mocana VeloDAR to create handsets that defend their own data and help look out for their users in even the most sensitive use cases.”

Recently, Pantech integrated and licensed Tuxera exFAT into its award-winning Android smartphones. Powered by Tuxera software, Pantech smartphones can now support 64GB and higher capacity SDXC flash memory cards, which greatly expand the available storage space for pictures, videos and apps. The first model with SDXC is Pantech Vega R3 with 5.3-inch screen and LTE (News - Alert) running on Qualcomm S4 Pro. Pantech has also licensed Tuxera NTFS to be included in future models.
